Report from The Phillips Collection

James Tissot
"The Gallery of HMS Calcutta", c. 1876

While visiting Washington DC last week I had the good fortune to be able to preview the outstanding exhibtion now open at The Phillips Collection called "Degas, Sickert and Toulouse-Lautrec / London and Paris 1870-1910". For lovers of the Victorian Era this show is a must-see. It was the only time I have ever been able to view three oil paintings by James Tissot in one place and I was in heaven. Not to mention superb works by James Whistler, Pierre Bonnard and Edouard Vuillard. The Phillips Collection's permanent collection is already breathtaking, but with these masterworks on display until May 14th, you owe it to yourself to take in this sensational show.

Dada in DC

Hello from Washington DC where the Exhibition "Dada" opens at the National Gallery of Art this weekend. Last night was the preview party, and what a party it was! The NGA pulled out all the stops and mounted a real Dada celebration with themed food and table decorations - even a conveyor belt with such delights as foie gras lollypops!

The exhibition itself is fantastic. Totally different from its original incarnation at the Centre Pompidou in Paris last year. This show is far more aesthetic and less focused on the literary aspect of this art movement. It is divided into 6 main galleries, representing the 6 centers for Dada - Zurich, Berlin, Hannover, Cologne, New York and Paris. Very cleverly selected and arranged.

Congratulations to Leah Dickerman and her colleagues at the National Gallery. The show comes to MoMA, New York, in June for its final stop. If you get a chance, don't miss it!

Winter Wonderland

Hello on this beautiful winter morning! This photo was taken yesterday afternoon in Central Park while the snow was still falling and New Yorkers were enjoying nature's playground! Skiers, sledders, snowman builders - everyone with a smile! It was a wonderful day!

Announcing My New Website!

After months of planning and working with a superb web design team, I am pleased to announce the launch of my new website. You can visit it at www.GeorginaKelman.com
Here you will find a collection of fine prints, drawings and watercolors from the Victorian Era to the Jazz Age. It showcases 40 works from my collection and gives a good overview of the type of material I carry. The website will be updated frequently to display new acquisitions. I hope you will visit often, and please, sign up for our newsletter!
Other news - I will be in Washington DC next week for the opening of the Dada Exhibition at the National Gallery, and a visit to the Cezanne show also at the NGA. I will post a report when I return!
