Report from The Phillips Collection

James Tissot
"The Gallery of HMS Calcutta", c. 1876

While visiting Washington DC last week I had the good fortune to be able to preview the outstanding exhibtion now open at The Phillips Collection called "Degas, Sickert and Toulouse-Lautrec / London and Paris 1870-1910". For lovers of the Victorian Era this show is a must-see. It was the only time I have ever been able to view three oil paintings by James Tissot in one place and I was in heaven. Not to mention superb works by James Whistler, Pierre Bonnard and Edouard Vuillard. The Phillips Collection's permanent collection is already breathtaking, but with these masterworks on display until May 14th, you owe it to yourself to take in this sensational show.
